William S. Bannister was born April 10th, 1849 at New London, Ia. He remained in Iowa until 1884 when he came to Greeley County, Nebraska. In 1905 he came to Valley County with his family, settling at Ord, which has since been his home. In 1872 Mr. Bannister was united in marriage with Catherine Linn. Soon afterward he united with the Methodist church. Mr. Bannister was a member of the Masonic fraternity for many years and has assisted many times in the organization of new lodges. He was worshipful master a number of times.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Catherine Bannister and seven children, one child passing away in infancy. The children are as follows: Eva Banister of Ord, Mrs. Elizabeth Drake, of Long Beach, Calif., William and Roy of Great Falls, Mont., Mrs. Ivy Rogers, of Wolbach, Nebr., Mrs. Blanche Lamberton of Costa Mesa, Calif., Mrs. Inez Hall of Ord, Nebr. He leaves eight grandchildren and one brother, Henry Banister, who is at present with the family in Ord. Mr. Bannister was a quiet, inoffensive citizen, a good neighbor and a kind and affectionate father. For several months he has been in failing health and passed away on Saturday, January 14, 1928, aged 78 years, 9 months and 4 days. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church on Tuesday, January 17, 1928. Services will also be held by the Masonic lodge and interment is in the Ord cemetery. He leaves a host of friends to morn his departure.
