George W. Wingard, Retired Railroader, Dies of Heart Attack

George W. Wingard, 71, of 116 Ash Street, retired Pennsylvania Railroad yardmaster and Kane resident for the last 48 years, died suddenly following a heart attack Saturday afternoon at 12:15 o'clock. He was stricken while standing in front of the Hotel Reavley and was pronounced dead by Dr. G. E. Dutter, who was called to the scene immediately after the fatal attack.

Mr. Wingard who was born Aug. 18, 1887 at Clear Creek, Jefferson County, had resided in Kane for the past 48 years. He was employed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad for 12 years and subsequently by the Pennsylvania Railroad for 40 years prior to his retirement. His last position was as a yardmaster for the P.R.R.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose and to the Wilcox Sportsmen's Club.

Mr. Wingard was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Oda Mae Wingard Nov. 26, 1957 and by two sons, Wilbert in 1915 and James in 1937. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Schleiff of East Kane, Mrs. Philip Keener, Jr., of RD 2 and Mrs. Perry Hedlund of Bradford; four grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Belle Caldwell, Mrs. Lester Howe and Mrs. Blanch Martin, all of Youngsville; and four brothers, David, Clifford and William Wingard of Youngsville and Raymond Wingard of Warren.

Friends will be received at the John F. Hill Funeral Home at the usual visiting hours, 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 o'clock today. Funeral services will be held at Hill's Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Lt. Vernon Forrider and Lt. Richard Dean of the Salvation Army officiating.
