Charles L. Stryker, retired grocery executive, died Monday at Auburn Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Locke, 94 years ago, and had lived most of his life in Auburn. He retired as vice president and treasurer of the C. G. Meaker Grocery Co.
Mr. Stryker's first wife was the former Miss Florence VanDuyne who died in 1918. They were married in 1900. In 1924 he married the former Mrs. Blanche Morgan who died in 1966.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, Mr. Stryker was a trustee and deacon. He was a 53-year member of Auburn Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd decree Mason. He also was a Shriner, being a member of Auburn Shrine Club and Damascus Temple of Rochester. Other affiliations were Auburn Lodge of Elks; life member of Auburn Rotary Club and United; former member of Auburn Country Club.
Mr. Stryker served as secretary of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, executive secretary of Auburn Community Chest, and was president of the YMCA for 17 years.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. John H. Slagle; two granddaughters, six great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Reginald C. Gray of Auburn.
Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Metcalf Memorial Chapel of First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Ralph H. Wagner Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Moravia. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Memorial Fund of First Presbyterian Church.
