William C. Atherton, 55, of Owensboro died Fridat at Vanderbilt Hospital, Nashville. He was born in McLean County, was employed by Transport Motor Express Company and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and the VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice C Atherton; a son Gary Atherton of Henderson; four stepsons, Joseph, Gerald, and Larry Hamilton, all of Owensboro, and Dennis Hamilton of Camirello, Calif.; two daughters, Faye Hoover of Hartford and Barbara Hester of Pleasant Ridge, six stepdaughters, Peggy Aull of Owensboro, Joyce Helms of Richland, Ind. Betty Martin of Albuquerque, NM. Mary Dooley of St. Louis, Paula Raggow of Iowa City, Iowa and Sue Marinze of Oxnard, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren, a sister Mrs Wilton Allen of Owensboro, three brothers, Les Atherton of Owensboro, and Manuel and Ray Atherton bothe of Pacific, MO.

Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Burial in the Church Cemetery. Visitation at James H Davis Funeral Home.
