This would have been the 7th child of Jemima Hendricks Clay. It's life was cut short when Jemima was shot to death in the 7th month of her pregnancy by her estranged husband. As Jemima and her husband had been separated for nearly a year, he is not believed to be the child's father. As reported in the Beckley newspaper at the time, the motive for the shooting was believed to be jealousy.

The unborn baby and Jemima are buried together in the cemetery where her parents are also enterred.

One of Jemima's sons witnessed the shooting and testified against his father at the trial. Her husband served some time in prison for the murders, was released, and later died of cancer.
