Obituary: Elsie J. "Jane" Engeman, 80, Atchison, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at Heartland East Hospital, St. Joseph. Services will be at 1 P.M. Saturday at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. Mrs. Engeman had worked at Luxra Company of Atchison. She was born Sept. 17, 1919 in Atchison, the daughter of Samuel C. and Mary Garnon Hopple. She attended Atchison public schools and graduated from Atchison High School. Mrs. Engeman enjoyed playing cards, bowling and crocheting. She and Walter E. Engeman Sr., were married Dec. 28, 1938, in Meriden, KS. He survives of the home. Her parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Additional survivors include: two sons, Phillip Engeman, Fullerton, Calif., and Walter E. Engeman Jr., Rushville; a daughter, Mary Chilson, Topeka; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. (Src: Atchison Daily Globe, February 18, 2000.)
