Obituary: DEATH of KIRKLAND BOY. Chas. Rogher Kirkland Was Victim of Incurable Anemia.
Chas Rogher Kirkland, seven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kirkland of Palermo, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the home of his parents. Chas. was a victim of a form of anemia for which no cure has been found. He was an exceedingly strong, healthy child until early in the summer when he became pale and sick. He received treatment from leading doctors in St. Joseph and was given many blood transfusions, but to no avail.
Chales Rogher Kirkland was born in St. Joseph Feb. 23, 1931 and died at his home four miles south of Wathena at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, September 21 at the age of 7 years, 6 months and 28 days.
He leaves to mourn his loss his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. John Kirkland; two brothers, Robert and John Jr.; and three sisters, Ruth, Dorothy and Helen, all of the home and his grandfather and grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Engeman of Atchison and also a host of friends and relatives.
He had been sick three months. He bore his suffering with unusual fortitude, never complaining, and through it all displayed a beautiful example of trusting faith that eventually, all would be well.
"Jesus said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the Kingdom of God."
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church with the paster, Rev. G.C. Meyer, officiating. Burial was at Belmont cemetery. Arrangements in charge of Meierhoffer Funeral Home.(Src: The Wathena Times, September 29, 1938.)
