Marriage: Opal Edwards Became Bride of Merton Henry Tuesday of This Week
Opal Edwards and Merton Henry of Alcester were quietly married Tuesday noon at the Methodist parsonage in Elk Point, Rev. Pierce performing the ceremony. They were attended by Mrs. Olga Bauerly and Chris Bogh of LeMars. The bride was charming in a fall suit of dark blue crepe trimmed in white with small hat to match. Her attendant was dressed in dark blue and the bridegroom and best man wore suits of blue. A wedding dinner was served to the bridal party in the evening at the home of Mrs. Bauerly at LeMars.
The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs Fred Engeman of Atchison, Kans., and has been employed in the Alcester vicinity for the past two years during which time she has made many friends. The bridegroom, a son of Mrs. Jerry Henry of Hawarden, is a life-long resident of this vicinity and is held in high esteem by all who know him. Their many friends join in wishing them a long, happy married life.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry left Tuesday evening on a ten-day trip to Atchison, Kansas City and other places in Kansas after which they will be at home to their many friends on the groom's farm, west of Alcester.(Src: Alcester, S.D. Union Newspaper, August 21, 1934.)

Obituary: FUNERAL SERVICES HELD TUESDAY FOR MRS. MERTON HENRY
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Big Springs Baptist church for Mrs. Merton Henry, 65, who died Jan. 22 at the Hawarden hospital after a brief illness. The Rev. William R. Hoyt officiated and burial was in the Big Springs cemetery.
The former Opal Iva Engeman, she was born Feb. 7, 1906, at Wathena, Kan. She married Aug. 21, 1934, at Elk Point and the couple farmed in Union county until moving to Hawarden eight years ago.
She was a member of the Big Springs Baptist church and the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary. She had been employed at the Hawarden hospital.
Survivors include the widower; three daughters, Mrs. Orlin (Bonny Bell) Anderson of North St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Babatunde (Glenda Jewel) Masha of Minneapolis and Mrs. Paul (Eddie Lew) Newberg of Wausa, Nebr., one step-son, Alvie Henry of La Crosse, Wis.; two sisters, Mrs. John (Ruth) Kirkland of Wathena, Kan., and Mrs. Ralph (Grace) Reichle of Cummings, Kan.; two brothers, Joseph Engeman of Albany, Ore., and Walter Engeman of Hiawatha, Kan.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.(Src: Alcester Union newspaper, January 22, 1972.)
