Effie Ray Griffith
Efiie Ray Griffith, 89, Genoa, formerly of Clyde, died Sunday, October 17, 1993, at her home. The funeral is Friday at 11 a.m. at the Mitchell Auxter Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Bell officiating. Burial is in McPherson Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home is Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with Eastern Star services at 7 p.m.
She was born November 10, 1903, in Muskingum County, the daughter of George William and Mary Estella (Matchett) Lacey. She was a graduate of Clyde High School and resided in Clyde until 1971 when she moved to Genoa.
She married Alexander Ray in 1923 and he preceded her in death in 1959. She married Jesse Griffith in 1971 and he died in 1992.
She had been employed at Stayer's Five and Dime in Clyde and later at Joseph's Department Store in Fremont.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clyde and Chapter No. 73 of the Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Gilbert (Betty) Lacumsky, Oak Harbor, Mrs. Lloyd (Thelma) Wroten, Magalia, Calif., and Mrs. Calvin (Barbara) Bishop, Marion; a son, Glenn (Janene) Ray, Littleton, CO., two step-sons, William Griffith, Dan Griffith, Canton, a step-daughter Alberta Rush in Pennsylvania, a sister, Ora Maude Starr, Delaware, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded by a brother, Guy, and four sisters, Nellie, Ruby, Carrie and Nora Maud.
