Married Dr. Havilah Beardsley at Greenfield OH in 1823, moving with him to northern Indiana in 1830, where he first established what is now known as the city of Elkhart. 1st cousin to John C. Calhoun, former Senator from South Carolina and Vice-President of the United States under Presidents John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. There were seven children born to this union, of which five (four sons and one daughter) survived to adulthood:

1. Edwin Beardsley (born in 1824, died after 1906)
2. Charles Beardsley (1827 - July 22 1878)
3. James Rufus Beardsley (June 23 1829 - July 29 1902)
4. Sarah Francis (Beardsley) Davenport (born in 1831)
5. Raper Beardsley (died in infancy in Elkhart IN, date and year unknown, probably 1833)
6. Narcissa Beardsley (died in infancy in Elkhart IN, 1835)
7. Richard Beardsley (October 9 1838 - January 23 1876) (died in Cairo, Egypt and was buried there)

NOTE: According to the Beardsley family tree that I obtained while visiting the Dr. Havilah Beardsley house in Elkhart IN, Rachel Beardsley died in 1890. The Grace Lawn Cemetery records indicate her death date as April 3, 1891. However, cemeteries would sometimes put the internment date in the cemetery records vice the actual death date. Based on the family tree information, I chose to use 1890 as the year she died. There is no gravestone at the Beardsley plot at Grace Lawn Cemetery that lists her name and the date of her death or birth.
