Born in Fall River, Mr. Lawlor attended public schools in the city through the eighth grade and graduated in 1965 from the former Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton. He received his bachelor's degree in 1970 from Northeastern University in Boston, where he was a member of the track team.
A former staff reporter for the Fall River Herald News, Mr. Lawlor spent his career working in a variety of public relations positions for companies such as General Electric, Pillsbury, Stone and Webster, and Southern New England Telephone. He joined Ocean Spray Cranberries in 1983 and was part of an executive team that helped build the Massachusetts-based agricultural cooperative into a Fortune 500 company with more than $1 billion in sales. He retired from Ocean Spray in 1999 returning to Fall River to care for his elderly mother.
He is survived by his mother, Helen G. (McMahon) Lawlor of Fall River and his godmother and aunt, Claire McMahon of Studio City, CA. He was son of the late James E. Lawlor, Sr., and brother of the late James E. Lawlor, Jr.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 9 am from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a funeral mass at 10 am in Holy Name Church, Hanover St., Fall River.
