Heather Ann Fuller was a senior at Millbrook High School in Winchester, Virginia where she was nominated as class flirt. She worked at Rita's Italian Ice and was an Avon consultant. She danced at the Center for Dance in Frederick County and was a former Girl Scout and former cheerleader at James Wood High School. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of the youth group of the church. After having pain in her upper left leg for months, doctors diagnosed Heather with spindle cell sarcoma in September 2003. She then had her hip replaced and underwent chemotherapy. She lost all of her hair, but loved her custom-made wig with highlights. Heather was looking forward to her senior prom in less than a month. She had been designing a white dress with turquoise (her favorite color) embroidered flowers and rhinestones across the front. Her mother was going to have the dress made for her, but time ran out. Heather died at 5:05 a.m. on Tuesday, April the 13th, 2004 in a hospice room at Children's National Medical Center in Washington D.C. She was just 18 years old.
