Mrs. Frank Jacobs, Ill at Her Home

Mrs. Frank W. Jacobs, 152 E. Gilman st., a member of one of Madison's oldest and most distinguished families, was critically ill at her home today. Mrs. Jacobs underwent medical treatment at Madison General hospital for a time, but returned to her home a few weeks ago.

Mrs. Jacobs' father, the late Gove. Lucius Fairchild of Wisconsin, served at one time as as [sic] United Steres consul to Liverpool. As Caryl Fairchild, she spent much of her girlhood with her parents in the capital of Europe. She was presented to the King and Queen of England at the Court of St. James' and later wore her elaborate ivory satin presentation gown for her marriage to Jacobs. Jacobs, former vice-president of the Capital City bank, retired a number of years ago.

Mrs. F. W. Jacobs Gove. Fairchild's Daughter, Dies

A member of one of Madison's most distinguished families, Mrs. Frank W. Jacobs, 152 E. Gilman st., died at er home early today after an illness of several weeks.

Mrs. Jacobs, the former Caryl Fairchild, was one of the three daughters of the late Gov. and Mrs. Lucius Fairchild, pioneer Wisconsin resident. Her two sisters, Mrs. Charles Morris, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Seldon Bacon, New York City, died several years ago.

Mrs. Jacobs' grandfather, Jairus C. Fairchild, was Madison's first mayor, assuming office in 1856. Her father, Gove. Fairchild, came to Madison in 1846 with his parents. After a brilliant record in the Civil war, he returned to Wisconsin to serve as governor of the state from 1866 to 1872.

Mrs. Jacobs was born in Liverpool, England, at the time her father was serving as United States consul to Liverpool. He later served as consul to Paris and minister to Spain.

Because of her father's career in foreign diplomacy, Mrs. Jacobs traveled extensively throughout Europe and spent much of her girlhood on the continent. She was presented to the king and queen of England at the Court of St. James' and later wore her beautiful ivory presentation gown for her marriage to Frank W. Jacobs, former vice-president of the Capital City bank now retired or many years.

Mrs. Jacobs, who was educated at Miss Master's school, Dobbs Ferry, N. Y., was active in Red Cross work in Madison in both World War I and II. She served in the motor corp in the first war and held a administrative position during the present war. She was a member of the Colonial Dames society and was a leader in Madison's social life.

Mrs. Jacobs' only survivors ae her husband and on daughter, Mrs. Frederick L. Leach, the former Lucia Jacobs. Mrs. Leach has been making her home with her parents wile her husband is overbars in army service.

The body was taken to the Fitch-Lawrence Funeral home.

Funeral services For Mrs. Jacobs will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Grace Episcopal church. The Rev. Earl L. Fulfer will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.
