PARALYTIC STROKE IS FATAL TO JOHN DITSCH
OCTOGENARIAN SPENT 69 YEARS OF LIFE IN THIS CITY
John Ditsch, an octogenarian and a pioneer and respected citizen, died at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon in his residence at the age of 79. In failing health for six months the immediate cause of death was a paralytic stroke suffered Saturday morning. Coming to Mishawaka from Brustadt, Germany, at the age of 11, Mr. Ditsch spent the remaining 69 years of his life in this city. He was born June 5, 1847, in Brustadt and was married Sept. 25, 1872 to Miss Julia Bender, who survives, in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. Five years ago Mr. and Mrs. Ditsch celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Surviving in addition to his wife are a half-brother, Joseph Kurtz, this city; a sister, Mrs. John Gary, Cohasset, Minn.; four sons, J. H., August and Walter Ditsch, all of this city, and Albert Ditsch, of South Bend, and two sisters, Mrs. James Beard, Edwardsburg, Mich., and Mrs. John Modjeska, Rolling Prairie, Ind. Twelve grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held from the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. M. E. Hawkins, D.D., pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in City Cemetery. The body may be viewed at the residence from 9 o'clock Tuesday morning until the hour of the funeral.
