Corwin "Corky" Abernathy, 78, of Portland, Maine, formerly of Marion, died Monday, June 21, 2010. Graveside Services: 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a son, Martin Richter of Tulsa, TX; sister, Beverly J. (Charles) Daws of Hiawatha; and a special friend, Aideen Coyne of Scarborough, Maine.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; children, Gregory in infancy, Pamela Hand and her husband, Buzz; and a brother, Aaron Abernathy.
Corwin was born September 30, 1931 in Vinton, the son of Melvin L. and Edith G. (Cue) Abernathy. He graduated from Marion High School in 1950 then attended one year at Coe College. Corwin served in the United States Coast Guard for three years during the Korean Conflict. Corwin was united in marriage to Kathleen Wasson. He was a member of the Masons and American Legion.
