SERVICES WILL BE HELD TODAY FOR THOMAS HANSON

Funeral services for Thomas Hanson, 91, will be held this afternoon, Thursday, at 1:30 p.m. in the Orvedahl Funeral chapel and at 2 p.m. in Our Savior’s Lutheran church. The Rev. Richard N. Nelson will officiate with with the arrangements being completed by the Orvedahl Funeral Chapel.

Hanson, who came to South Dakota in 1878 at the age of 13, passed away in the Flandreau municipal hospital, Monday, Oct. 8. The son of Jartrude and Petrina Hanson, he was born in Viroqua, Wis., on March 11, 1865. The family traveled by covered wagon, being among the earliest settlers in this area.

On May 7, 1891, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Johnson. They farmed for many years in Moody county and a few years ago retired and moved into Flandreau.

Mr. Hanson was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Viroqua, Wis., and was confirmed by the late Rev. J. A. Blilie.

He is survived by his wife, eight children, Mrs. Grover (Christena) Dillingham, Arthur and Henry of Flandreau; Gilbert, Mrs. Harvey (Sylvia) James, Sioux Falls; Mrs. Millie Box, Mrs. Emma Drusch, Sioux City; and Mrs. Robert (Mabel) Matherly, St. Paul; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers will include Walter Dillingham, Fred Drusch, Dwayne Anderson, Merlyn Hanson, Myles Matherly and Jean Bowen. Special music will be furnished by the Lutheran ladies quartet consisting of Mrs. Creston Waxwahl, Mrs. Richard Neprud, Mrs. Edward Hovland and Mrs. Morris Hasvold. Mrs. Kenneth Rewalt will be organist.

Interment will be in the Flandreau cemetery.
