Jake began his short life Nov. 28, 1993, and spent his first three months in the Children's Mercy Hospital NICU, as he was born with a surgically correctable medical condition. His parents were finally able to take him home to nurture and love.

Jake loved music, animals, Donkey Kong, nature and fishing. He was a good storyteller and he will be dearly missed by his family.

Jake was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Michael and Leona Robel of Independence, Mo.; his great-uncle, Allen Fogell, and great-uncle Don Robel, of Helena.

Survivors include his parents in Independence, Mo.; grandparents, in Independence, grandmother; many aunts and uncles, great aunts and great uncles. Jake has many family members in Montana and the Northwest as well.

Because of the circumstances surrounding Jakes death, it led to the passage of a Missouri law, called Jake's Law, which requires background checks to be conducted by the sheriff and the jailers on a prisoner upon the latter's release from prison.

On a side note, I dont think that posting the details of this poor boys tragic death are appropriate for his bio. This memorial is for celebrating what a wonderful child he was! Please DO NOT post things like that in the flowers!
