Arthur Herman Schmeichel, 76, of 197 Bon Aire Trailer Court, died Wednesday morning at Mercy hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Schmeichel was born Sept. 8, 1906, in Muscatine, the son
of Herman and Louise Schmeichel. He married Marie Snyders
on March 18, 1934, at Cedar Rapids. They moved to Iowa City in 1949 when he became
mechanical superintendent for the Daily Iowan where he
worked for 22 years. He retired in 1971.

He was a member of
the First United Methodist Church of Iowa City, and Masonic Lodge AF&AM No. 4 of Iowa City. Also, he was past president of the Iowa City Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Ann Bentley of Iowa City and Linda Clausen of Coralville; and three granddaughters.

Services will be Saturday at the George L. Gay Funeral Home, where friends may call after noon Friday. Entombment at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Masonic services Friday at the funeral home. Memorial funds have been established to the Lions Eye Bank and the America Diabetes Association.
