Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 12 from 5-8 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday with Rev. William Hart officiating. Burial will be in Pierrepont Hill Cemetery.
Edna was born April 5, 1929 in Canton, a daughter of Everett and Ardis (Mott) Aldous. She graduated Canton High in 1947.
On March 2, 1948 she married Lloyd H. Thomas at the Methodist Church with Rev. Firth as celebrant. Lloyd died in 2001.
Edna loved the farmer's life. After her father died when she was a young teen, she helped her mother and siblings run their small dairy farm while still attending school. After marrying her husband Lloyd, she helped run their own dairy farm until retiring in the early 90's. Even after their son and daughter in-law took over the farm she still kept a handful of goats to care for and helped out whenever she could, from herding cattle to jumping on her four-wheeler to check a fence line.
Passing on her love for animals to her children and grandchildren; she often said at one point or another, their pets consisted of everything that could swim, crawl run or fly. She also had a large garden, flower-beds, and house plants seemingly in every window. She was a member of the Pierrepont Hill Cemetery Association, Farm Bureau Member with her husband and taught 4-H.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Cathryn of Pierrepont; a sister and brother-in-law, Noreen and Steve Balcom of Pulaski; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Edna was predeceased by her siblings, Harold and Irene Mott, Kenneth Aldous and Eleanor Robinson; infant daughter, Susan (1950), son Donnie (1979) and a daughter, Judy (1998).
Memorial contributions are suggested to Pierrepont First Responders, 62 C.R. 29, Canton, NY 13617 or Colton Volunteer Rescue, P.O. Box 229, Colton, NY 13625.
