Maria was the seventh of eight children born to Asa and Temperance (Pelton) Andrews. Her father died in 1830 and her mother married Hiram Caldwell sometime before 1840. Maria went to live with Albert and Sarah Barnes (her sister) in Franklin, Delaware, NY. She came to Granville Summit in 1846 with them.

Maria Lucia Andrews and Benjamin Franklin Taylor were married
in 1851.

Maria is a direct descendant of William Andrews, one of the original founders of Hartford and its first schoolmaster.
