Wilfred Raymond Gunn served in the Canadian armed forces during both the First and Second World Wars. In World War I he was captured by the Germans and held as a prisoner-of-war for two-and-a-half years. In World War II he served as Squadron Leader in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). In recognition of his military service, he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in June 1945. He retired from the RCAF after attaining the rank of Wing Commander.
