Charles Baltimore Calvert
College Park, Aug. 31.—Charles Baltimore Calvert, a leading citizen of Prince George County, died at his country residence. "MacAlpine," near this place, at 1:45 o'clock this morning, after a brief illness of Bright's disease, aged sixty-three years.

He had been unwell for several months, but his condition was not regarded as critical until several days ago, when he was attacked with a sinking spell.

Mr. Calvert was born February 5, 1843, at the historic Calvert mansion, in what is now Riverdale Park, and several years ago "MacAlpine," the present Calvert homestead, was built, where he lived until his death. He was the son of the late Charles Benedict Calvert. In-1864 he was elected a member of the Maryland legislature from Prince George County as a Democrat, and served in the special session of 1866. He was re-elected to the legislature in 1867. He was one of the original promoters of the electric railway operating between 'Washington and Laurel, and for a number of years was president of the National Hotel Company, of Washington.

Besides his widow, .he is survived by the following children: Mrs. W. G. Carey, of Schenectady, N. Y.; Mrs. H. W. Lilly, of Fayetteville. N. C.; Mrs. Thomas H. Spence, of College Park; Richard C. M. Calvert, George H. Calvert, jr., Charles Baltimore Calvert, Rosalie Calvert, and Mrs. Nelson Thomas, of Baltimore. Funeral services will be held Saturday' at 4:30 o'clock at St. Paul's Church, Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington. D. C.
