August was the son of Heinrich Ferdinand and Adeline Louise Henriette, nee Huebner, and brother of Albert Ferdinand (January 30, 1861 Germany), Bernhard Franz (June 12, 1864 Germany), Heinrich Carl (March 10, 1869 Germany), Franz Heinrich (November 10, 1871 Germany) and Bertha Wilhelmine (April 6, 1874 Germany). He was also the stepfather of wife Augusta's son Otto Timreck.
