Horice was born January 18, 1939 to Horace G. and Elizabeth K. Barnett, the second of six children, in Pine Bluff, Ark.
Horice was beloved by her family and friends for her humor, generosity, loyalty, support, and unconditional love for those she held dear. She was known to those closest to her for knowing exactly what she wanted and achieving it and saying exactly what was on her mind when she felt it necessary, and they loved her for it.
After many years in a career in Education as a teacher, librarian, and
finally an executive administrative assistant, she retired and opened
her own private business as a seamstress, where she built a large and loyal clientele due to her excellent talent, customer service, and work ethic. The appreciation and respect she showed her clients was always returned by their constant referrals, recommendations and consistent patronage.
She is preceded by her husband, Dr. Joseph W. Colen; her parents Horace and Elizabeth Barnett; her sisters, Laura M. Joseph and Eula R. Barnett of Pine Bluff, Ark. and her brother Horace G. Barnett, Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.
She is survived by her son, Joseph W. Colen, Jr. of Jackson, Miss.; her brothers, Richard Barnett of Pine Bluff, Ark. and David Barnett of Washington, D.C., and a multitude of nieces, nephews, family, friends and neighbors who will miss her deeply.
