Agnes was the last child born of six children to Joseph S. and Mary Elizabeth Sands Wells. She was born in Lincoln County, Missouri, but spent most of her life in Boone County, Missouri. She married James William Devier, November 26, 1875 in Boone County. James and she build a house on a portion of his father's land consisting of forty-seven acres. They had one daughter, Alcinda Miller Devier. James and Agnes were well respected members of the Shaw community and friends knew him as a man of his word.
