Mrs. Ruether was born Dec. 18, 1928, in Americus, the daughter of William Koenig and wife Sophie, nee Schrader.

She was united in marriage to Urban "Chick" Ruether Oct. 21, 1951, in Starkenburg. Mrs. Ruether was preceded in death by her husband, Urban "Chick" Ruether; her parents, Sophie and William Koenig; five brothers, Edward, Vincent, Quentin, Joseph and Valerian Koenig; five sisters, Barbara Bergman, Gertrude Labbe, Rita Voss, Sister Loretta Koenig and Bernadine Luebbert; and her sisters- and brothers-in-law, Angela Koenig, William Bergman, Carl Labbe, Catherine Koenig, Elmer Voss, Edward Luebbert, Alfred Holtmeyer, Jerome Ruether, Donald Wessel, Tom Ruether and Donald Heggemann. She is survived by one son, Mark Ruether and wife Teresa, Jefferson City; four daughters, Elaine Nick and husband Tom, Kansas City, Kan., Mary Anne Knotts and husband David, Dutzow, Nancy Miller and husband Gary, Overland Park, Kan., and Carol Wehmeyer and husband Douglas, Washington; her sisters- and brothers-in-law, Shirley Koenig, Rhineland, Margaret Holtmeyer, Mary Lee Ruether, Anna Marie Wessel, Louise Schwoeppe and husband Marvin and Bernice Borgerding and husband Carl, all of Dutzow, Joan Heggemann and Eileen Ruether, both of Concord Hill; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends. Mrs. Ruether was a homemaker and caring mother. Her husband, family, grandchildren and great-grandchild meant the world to her and held a very special place in her heart. She was an active member of St. Martin's Church and devoted to Our Lady of Sorrows, Starkenburg. Her marriage brought her to Dutzow and the Parish of St. Vincent de Paul. Mrs. Ruether and her husband enjoyed 60 years of marriage in this community. Her deep faith and love of the Blessed Mother was demonstrated by her daily rosary and attendance at Mass. In addition, she spent many hours in a labor of love for the church, serving as sacristan, decorating the altars with flowers from her garden, maintaining the church's linens and working the parish's social and fundraising events. She had a wide variety of interests and hobbies throughout her life, including cooking, quilting, gardening and crafting. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 28, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Dutzow, with Father Gene Robertson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials to the Urban and Sophie Ruether Scholarship Fund for St. Vincent de Paul Grade School, Dutzow, are preferred. The family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
