At age 25 in 1835 M. D. Miller began preaching in the Monkton, Addison Co. VT Baptist Church and was ordained there a year later. At the same time he also pastored the nearby Baptist Church in Charlotte, Chittenden Co. VT. VT Baptist records reveal he went on to pastor several more churches in the state: NORTH SPRINGFIELD 1837-39, DANVILLE 1839, TOWNSHEND FIRST 1840, WINDHAM 1840-43, WILMINGTON 1844-47, and ADDISON 1848-49. In January 1853 the Rev. Mr. Miller moved his family to Madison WI and owing to impaired health he retired from the ministry in June 1857 and organized the Wisconsin Bank of Madison, a business he continued until retirement in 1876.
