American cinematic Art Director. In a career that spanned 45 years working for Paramount and Universal Pictures he served as the Art Director for more than 75 motion picture and television films. He was nominated for six Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards for Best Art Direction and won two. The first in 1963 for “To Kill a Mockingbird” and then in 1974 for “The Sting.” Other films to his credit include, Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven, Slap Shot, A Little Romance, The World According to Garp, Cape Fear, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Space Cowboys, Mystic River, and Million Dollar Baby. In 1998 he received the Art Directors Guild of America, Lifetime Achievement Award. He was also inducted into the Art Directors Guild Hall of Fame.
