Roland was born in Mission City, British Columbia, Canada, on 24 May 1896 to Agnes [Gibbard] and George Alexander Abbott. His mother was born, on 29 May 1878, in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England and died, 15 Apr 1934, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. Roland's father was born, on 27 Jun 1866, in Lakefield, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada and died, on 14 Aug 1953, in Seattle, King, Washington and was 87 years old.

He immigrated in 1908 from [English speaking] Canada. He was naturalized. His parents were both from England and living in B.C., Canada.

At 17 years, Roland crossed the border at Sumas, Washington from Mission, B.C., Canada, in 1913. He reported that his father, G. O. Abbott, his closest relative lived in Mission, B. C., Canada and that he was headed to Bellingham, Washington to do auto repair work.

Seattle, Washington passenger list shows that Roland entered the United States in Seattle on 11 Dec 1918.

On 18 July 1923, Roland Ray Abbott was married to Nellie B. Hatchard. in Seattle, King County, Washington by, Rev. M. A. Matthews. Miss Nellie B. Hatchard was born in the state of Colorado, on 29 Jun 1895. Nellie died in Douglas County, Oregon, on 28 Nov 1970, at the age of 95 years. Her last residence was Riddle, Douglas, Oregon. Her place of burial was not located.

In 1930, Roland was working as an accountant for a steam ship company, in San Francisco. His wife, Nellie, was present. Also, there was a step-son, Oliver Lee Gordon, who was born on 10 Aug 1914 and died in Douglas County, on 08 Mar 1989. In 1940, at age 25, he was married and a inmate at the Alameda County, California, prison farm.

On 24 Jan 1972, Roland Ray Abbott (age 72) was married to Leona Marie Harper (age 59), of Douglas County, Oregon. The marriage took place in Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington by Rev. Don M. Oife, a Seattle, King, Washington pastor. Leona was born in Bandon, Coos County, Oregon. Leone Marie Abbott died on 16 Aug 1991 and is interred next to her first husband, 'P. Doyle Harper' who died in 1968 and is buried in the Riddle Cemetery.
