Donna Dee Carpenter, "Deedie", passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on May 31, 2008, after a short illness.
She was born July 15, 1920 in Anniston, Ala. to the late John and Laura Massey. She has been an area resident for over 60 years. During World War II, she worked on the U.S. Army Post at Ft. McClellan, Ala. She worked for O'Neils and Springfield Twp. Schools. She had been a member of the Lakemore Fire Dept. Woman's Auxilliary and was trained as an EMT. She had also worked in the Lakemore voting booth during elections.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 62 years, Donald E. Carpenter; daughter Phyllis Ann Martin; son, David A. Carpenter; and sisters, Elizabeth Webb and Katherine Smith of Alabama. She is survived by her daughters, Judy Olson and Janice Carpenter of Akron; grandsons, Christopher and Derek Olson of Akron and Todd (Teresa) Olson of Santa Ana, Calif.; great-grandson, Tyler J. Olson; sisters-in-law, Mary Brown of Akron and Vivian (James) Eubanks of Clearwater, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved by all. She will be greatly missed by all.
Family will receive friends at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Hillside Memorial Park.
