Sarah Walton Shellhouse, 99, lifelong resident of the Sycamore farming community, passed away unexpectedly at Wyandot Memorial Hospital Feb. 12, 2012, due to a brief illness.

Sarah was born April 11, 1912, in Eden Township to George and Mabel (Hildebrand) Walton. She married Forrest Shellhouse in 1931.

Sarah loved the outdoors and enjoyed working on the family farm. She sowed and raised many productive gardens, which included flavorful strawberries that she shared with family and friends.

Forrest worked on the ore carrier ships on the Great Lakes and while he was gone, Sarah managed the family farm. Forrest died in 1970.

Sarah is survived by brother Claude Walton of Upper Sandusky. In addition, Sarah is survived by two daughters, Shirley Carr of Upper Sandusky and Beverly Yelchak (Ray) of Sacramento, Calif.; and a son, Richard (Janet) Shellhouse of Shelby. Surviving grandchildren are Debra Carr of Upper Sandusky; Dian Hufford of Tiffin; Gary Carr of Bucyrus; Mark Yelchak of Plano, Texas; John Yelchak of Citrus Heights, Calif.; Susan Burrows of California; Eric Shellhouse of Annapolis, Md.; and Dane Shellhouse of Shelby. There also are several nieces and nephews in the Sycamore area. Great grandchildren are Kenny Hufford of Columbus, Crystal Hord of Upper Sandusky, and Danielle and Christie Burrows of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: sisters Vivian Warrington (Robert) of West Liberty and Helen Riedel (Stanley) of Sycamore; and brothers Wade Walton (Edna) of Tiffin and Grant Walton of Sycamore. She was preceded in death by grandsons Mike Carr and Steve Carr of Nevada, Ohio.

Sarah attended the former Deunquat Lutheran Church.

Walton-Moore Funeral Home of Sycamore is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no calling hours. A private family memorial service will be held at the gravesite at a later time. Burial will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery north of Sycamore.
