He was the son of the late Roy Burgess McKanna, Sr. and Myrtle Spencer McKanna.

Mack began his military career by joining the U.S. Army in 1948.

After an Honorable Discharge he enlisted in the Oklahoma Air National Guard. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and served as Commander of the 205th Electronics Installation Squadron based at Will Rogers Field in Oklahoma City, retiring in 1984.

He was dedicated to the Air National Guard and his country. His proudest moments were serving as Communications Officer aboard the famous, "Talking Bird" aircraft, where he traveled with his crew around the world setting up advanced communications for President John F. Kennedy. Mack always had a good story to tell.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy R. McKanna of Houston, TX; his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Ray McCaslin of Houston, TX; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Loretta McKanna of Yukon, OK; his grandson, Connor Hill of Dallas, TX; his grandson, Austin McKanna of Weatherford, OK; grandson, Tanner McKanna of Yukon, OK; and granddaughters, Taylor and Carly McCaslin of Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jean Joy McKanna Ferguson.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of the Servant Chapel, located at 14343 North MacArthur in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73142. [Phone: (405)721-4141]

Internment will immediately follow at the Columbarium in the Church of the Servant.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gray Eagle Retirees Association - Legacy Fund in the name of Roy B. McKanna, Jr.

All donations will be contributed to the Gray Eagle Scholarship Fund. Mail donations to: Gray Eagle Retiree Association, 5624 Air Guard Drive, Box 28, Oklahoma City, OK 73179-9004.
