"By this stone are deposited the remains of Captain Zachariah Hawkins, a worthy and respectable member of society, who in the 90th year of his age died in faith and hope, Jun 17th MDCCCVI. He had 14 children who all survived him, 82 grandchildren & 95 great-grandchildren. Sarah his first wife is buried in Derby, by whom she had Sarah & Mercy. Mary his 2nd wife is buried 12 feet on the left of this stone, by whom she had Mary, John, Elizabeth, Elijah, Anna, Gaylord, Ruth, Silas, Joseph, Moses & Isaac. Rachel his 3rd wife lies close by this on the left, by whom he had Zachariah. Lydia his relict and his sons erect this monument, thier tribute of gratitude, love and honor."

Captain Zachariah was a ferryman by trade & resided in Derby, Ct.
