March 17, 1927 - March 12, 2012

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice for Virginia Mae Paradeis, 84, of Rice who passed away Monday at her home. Rev. Thomas Becker will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church in Rice. Rice American Legion Auxiliary Post 473 will pray at 6:00, Christian Mothers will pray at 6:30, followed by Parish prayers at 7:30 Thursday at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.

Virginia was born on March 17, 1927 in Montrose, SD to Florenz and Mary (Marx) Welchert. She married Gerald Paradeis on November 12, 1947 in Epiphany, SD. Virginia was a school teacher in South Dakota prior to her marriage and was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice where she was active in the Christian Mothers. Virginia loved to make hats and mittens for school children through RSVP. She was a member of Rice bridge group, Rice Sportsman Club, Royalton School Board, Benton County 4-H, Rice American Legion Post 473 Auxiliary and Little Falls VFW Post 1112 Auxiliary. Virginia enjoyed knitting, tatting, cards, especially bridge and 500, and traveling. She was a strong willed but friendly person who will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her children, Terry (Dottie) Paradeis of Blue Springs, MO, Doug Paradeis of Houston, TX, Pat Furst of Rice, Bill (Kay) Paradeis of Rice, Marty (Sue) Paradeis of Merrifield, Peg (Bob) Wimmer of Royalton, Joan Paradeis of Wichita Falls, TX, and Jacky (Greg) Drewry of Oostburg, WI; Brother and sisters, Ted Welchert of Tucson, AZ, Gert VanPelt of Howard, SD, Fran Mahony of Kimball, SD, Rose Welchert of Wakonda, SD, Theresa Fowler of Marquette, MI , and Mary Welchert of Yankton, SD; 21 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald on July 21, 2002; daughter, Jane Paradeis; Sister and brothers, Anne Stratton, Daniel, David, Ray, Charles, and Tom Welchert.
