Robert "Bob" Grant Briggs, 73, of Edgerton, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at the Edgerton Hospital. He was born on June 28, 1936, in Orangeville, IL, son of Grant and Lorraine (Morton) Briggs. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Shields on Aug. 24, 1979 in Rockford, IL. Bob graduated from Orangeville High School in 1954. In 1958 he entered into the Army. He entered boot camp at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, where he became a paratrooper with the 81st Airborne Division. He later served in Germany. He enjoyed going to tractor pulls and collecting John Deere Toy Tractors. He retired from General Motors after 35 years. After retiring he worked at the Towne Edge Country Club in Edgerton, and also farmed at Olson Grain, Edgerton, and for Jeff and Monica Gerner in Fort Atkinson. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kathy of Edgerton; one daughter, Kimberly (Paul) Branning of Rockford, IL; three sons: Craig (Peggy) Briggs of Janesville, Kim (Diane) Bothom and Tod Bothom, both of Edgerton; five grandchildren; one sister, Susan (John) Weigmann of Tennessee; and one brother-in-law, Harley Kundert of Monroe. He was preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn "sis". Funeral service Oct. 23, 2009, at the EHLERT FUNERAL HOME Edgerton, with the Rev. Jean Bartlett officiating. Burial in the Fassett Cemetery.
