Phillip was a Private in Company B of the 11th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry. Like most of his company, He was captured and taken prisoner of war by Union troops near Town Creek, NC on 20 FEB 1865, and was ultimately sent to Point Lookout. MD, prison camp. At the end of the war he was released to go home on 29 JUN 1865. His paperwork describes him as being of dark complexion, having gray hair, gray eyes and 5' 4" tall.
