Hezekiah was my great, great grandfather.
Harold Chase was my great grandfather, and Pearl's brother. Mrs. Chase (their mother)was killed in a freak automobile accident at home in 1913. At this time, both Harold and Peal were attending college at Stanford (Pearl was the first woman to go there) and she returned home to Santa Barbara to take care of her father Hezekiah who was quite distraught over the accident.
I'm really not sure why Hezekiah's wife is not in that plot, but I can understand why Pearl is. Pearl broke off her engagement to Dean Witter, giving him back the ring on the Golden Gate Bridge, and returned home to Santa Barbara to spend her life dedicated to the beautification of her city. She never married.

History regarding daughter Pearl Chase is incorrect as she attended UC Berkeley, not Stanford.
