Stephan B. Sherwin was born February 13, 1805 the son of William and Mary (Baxter) Sherwin. He married Mersilvia Wilder the daughter of Samuel L. and Anna (Sherwin) Wilder April 16, 1835. Stephan and Mersilvia had eight children. Stephen was a merchant by trade from the time as a young man was involved in local and state politics. He served as a member of the school committee and was Rindge Town Clerk as well as representing the town in the state legislature for the years 1844, 1845 and 1846. He represented his political party in their national convention at Philadelphia, PA in 1856. He died very suddenly during a meeting at the town hall, where he was presiding, on December 14, 1861.
