Richard Leon Hasty (LCDR,USN, Ret.) was born in Leonard, TX, January 15, 1934 to Leon Potts Hasty and Irene Rogers Hasty. He passed on to his reward on March 15, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant boy and infant girl.
He received his MBA from North Texas State University, and spent 22 years in the United States Navy. After 2 years as the NJROTC instructor at Sam Rayburn High School, he spent 22 years in the insurance business.
He was involved in community activities, having graduated from the Pasadena Citizens' Police Academy, mentored in the HOSTS program, and taught classes for a home-school co-op. He was also a member of the Southeast Texas Patriot Guard.
For 33 years he was a faithful member of the Southeast Church of Christ, serving as a teacher, deacon and elder.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Nell Hasty of Pasadena, a daughter, Sarah Flipse of Clear Lake, a son, Robert, of California, and 5 grandchildren.
Family visitation will be Monday, March 19, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pasadena Funeral Chapel, 2203 Pasadena Blvd., in Pasadena. A committal service will be held at Houston National Cemetery at 10:30 on Tuesday morning, March 20. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, March 24, at the Southeast Church of Christ, 2400 West Bay Area Blvd., Friendswood, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Hope for Haiti's Children in care of the Southeast Church of Christ.
