Born to William Jorden and Martha Jane Evans Hurt, Porter was married to Myrtle H Williams by Rev. A.M. Matheny on October 6, 1909 at her parents home in Raleigh County. They resided in Mount Hope, Fayette County, where they raised six children: three sons, Walton of Mount Hope, Russell of Dearborn, MI, and Thomas of Rupert, WV, three daughters, Lea Webb of Mabscott, WV, Opal Hutchison of Daniels, WV, and Anna Lee Arthur of Mount Hope.

He retired as a blacksmith for the New River (Coal) Company in Mount Hope, WV. Preceeded in death by his wife, Porter is survived by his children, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren,his brother Charles of Cleveland, OH and four sisters, Pearl Deaver of Prosperity, Hazel Gunnoe of Coal City, Anna Coster of Fairmont, and Mrs. Ottie Deboard of Beckley.

He was a member of the Mount Hope Methodist Church.

Funeral services were conducted wednesday, May 7, 1969 at the Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Reverends Ralph Thomas and Bert Grant officiating.

His obituary, as it appeared in the Beckley Register-Herald on Monday, May 5, 1969 is attached.
