Mr. Higgins was born February 10, 1929, in Barry, Illinois to Louis Robert and Minerva Ann McCarl Higgins. He was married to Anna Mae Dark on August 17, 1950 in Barry, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 24, 1996. Survivors include 5 Children, Michael Higgins, Roberta Hufford, Larry Higgins, David Higgins, Barbara Mills, Special friend, George Smith, 2 Grandchildren, Carly Anna Mills and Samantha Michelle Higgins. He preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Russell Higgins and one son in law; Bobby Hufford.
Mr. Higgins was a U S Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Higgins retired from International Paper. He later worked for over 11 years at the YMCA. Mr. Higgins loved the St. Louis Cardinals and was an avid fan. He was an active member of Clover Road Christian Church and he was also a member of the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Clover Road Christian Church in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Wes Tischer, George Smith, Jamie Blair, Carl Bowler, Mike Spurgeon, and Lynn Rismiller.
