Eldest son of Ellwood and Catharine Wollaston Garrett. Served in Company F of the 5th Delaware Volunteer Infantry in 1863. Became a photographer, like his father, opening studios in Chester County, PA, and Salem County, NJ. Traveled to Yosemite on a photography trip in 1871, then moved to Philadelphia in the late 1870s. Continued to practice photography there until tuberculosis forced him to retire; he died of the disease in 1891. Also went by Alfred Garrett, C. Alfred Garrett, and C. A. Garrett.
