Richard Ivan Allday, 61, passed away Friday, March 26, 2010 at his residence in Dauphin Island, AL.
He suffered from a brief battle with cancer. Ivan was born in Arlington, AL on December 26, 1948.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Norman "Buster" Allday.
Richard is survived by his Mother, Margaret Bridges Allday. He is also survived by a daughter, Staci Curtiss (Russ) and a son, Allan Allday (Carrie Mathis); three grandchildren, Jon Harrison, Ana-Kate Kilgore, and Solomon Allday; two sisters, Lynne Hill (Michael) and Sandra Franklin (Joe); one brother, Sam Allday (Amy Schultz); and seven nieces and nephews. Ivan graduated from Clarke County High School in 1967. He was employed by lumber companies including Scotch Lumber Company and Linden Lumber Company. He was elected Mayor of Fulton and served as Mayor for 18 years. He was also a Council member for the City of Linden for 6 years. During his employment with the lumber companies, he was a member of the Southeastern Saw Filers Education Association and was elected President in 2006.
Ivan was very dedicated to his political terms as well as his employers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing while not in the mills. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Fulton Baptist Church in Fulton, AL. Visitation will be at 1pm and the service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation fund has been set up at AseraCare Hospice and USA Mitchell Cancer Institute both in Mobile, AL.
