She was baptized into the Methodist Church at a young age and later joined the Baptist Church. She was a member of the Roaganville Baptist Church, Roaganville, Texas. She was a lifetime member of the DAV and she worked several years with the Salvation Army in Wichita. She held the rank of Y.P.S.M. while connected with this organization. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She worked at Farha and Mammels Grocery Store in Wichita. She moved to Republic County in 1970 and worked for Glen and Maxine Liby at the Bel-Villa and Corner Grill. She was retired in 1984 and was a homemaker until the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Douglas Mitchell in 1992, two infant daughters, five sisters, Lenora West Pardee, Wanda West, Neveda Kay Tesar, Faye Maenell, Mary West Mote, and one brother Earl (Billie) West.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Tucker of Wichita and Randy Tucker of Scandia, Kansas, a daughter, Wanda Burnside of Haysville, eight grandchildren, two sisters, Mildred Richardson of Wichita, Karen Salmon of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, two brothers, Karl West and William "Eddie" West of Okmulgee and other relatives and many friends.
