The Session of the Second United Presbyterian Church of Butler, Pa., wishes to pay loving tribute to the memory of Elder J. Edson Byers who passed from his earthly to his heavenly home on November 21, 1954, at the age of seventy-eight years.

Mr. Byers was born and reared in the East Unity congregation of Butler Presbytery. He was gifted with a very fine bass voice and used it to the glory of God in the service of his congregation by singing for many years in the choir.

He came to Butler in 1920 and joined the Second church. He was a faithful member of the Irvin Bible Class and was elected to the Session in 1940. He continued in this office until his term under the rotary system expired.

Mr. Byers was a quiet, unassuming man with deep spiritual convictions, a loyal supporter of his church and a faithful follower of his Lord whom he loved and served. He will be missed greatly at Second Church, Butler, and his place will be hard to fill.

Our sincere sympathy is extended to his wife, his daughter, his four sons and a sister. May they find comfort in the thought that God doeth all things well.

Adopted December 26, 1954

Ed and Harriet had five children: Mable "Isabelle" (1905-1997 in Vermont) married to Herbert Harold McCafferty (1901-1985), Harold Edson (1908-1997 State College) married to Helen Briggs Medill Swyers (1911-2008), William John, Dr. Robert James (1915-1999 Florida) married first to Renalda Ann Dunning (1917-1957) and second to Anna Rosa Julia Tiscione (1926-2002), and Dale Russell.
