O. Eugene ''Gene'' Hurst, age 70, of Friendsville, passed away Saturday morning, June 18, 2005, at the family home after a battle of renal failure. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic and worked for Vulcan Material for many years. He was a loyal race fan and raced for many years himself at the local tracks.
Preceded in death by parents, Haskell and Blanche Hurst of Sevierville.
Wife, Mary Coffman Hurst.
He was a loving person and loved to laugh. Special thanks to the East Tennessee Dialysis Center, Dr. Hatab and Dr. Dirmeyer for their care during Gene's illness.
Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2005, at Miller Funeral Home Cedar Chapel, Rev. Rick Smelcer and Rev. Mike Arp officiating. Family and friends will meet at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Sevier County at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday for the interment service.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may contribute to the Friendsville Volunteer Fire Department. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryvlle.
