Mrs. Tucker was born on July 27, 1923 in San Francisco, CA, a daughter of the late John Norris Hicks and Agnes Dunning Hicks.
Barbara graduated from Queen of Angels School of Nursing with an RN degree.
She practiced nursing for many years as an operating room nurse at Queen of Angels, Anne Arundel Hospital in Annapolis, MD, and Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington.
She founded a school for handicapped children at Incirlik Air Force Base in Adana, Turkey and was one of the four founders of the Lexington Area Hospice.
She served 28 years as a RARA volunteer and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where she served as coordinator of the church Eucharistic ministries to the homebound and served on several committees of the church.
She was widely traveled as an Air Force wife and mother of five children. Her hobbies were sailing, golf and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Tucker is survived by her husband, Colonel Albert S. J. Tucker, Jr.; five children: Albert S. J. Tucker, III of Bel Air, MD; John N. Tucker of Lexington; Mary Susan Tucker Brander of Warrenton; Leslie Tucker of Lexington; and Kathryn Tucker Vitols of New Bern, NC; one brother, John Norris Hicks of Manhattan Beach, CA; and her grandchildren: Matthew A. Tucker, Albert S. J. Tucker, IV; Rachael T. Rudd; Jessica L. Christinsen; Timothy R. Loose; Casey M. Loose; and Martin T. Loose.
A funeral mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Alan Lipscomb officiating. Burial will follow in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations are to be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church Haitian Fund and RARA. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, March 28 with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
