Ralph O. Phillips

Ralph O. Phillips, 94, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at his residence in Spearsville in Brown County.

He was born June 10, 1909, in Bowling Green, Ohio. His parents were Frank and Nora (Sexsmith) Phillips. He married Ruth L. (Johnson) Phillips on Nov. 16, 1945. She preceded him in death June 2, 1979. Survivors include two daughters, Doris A. Porter and Helen J. Keymon, both of Brown County; a brother, Harvey Phillips of Franklin; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret F. Turner; and three brothers, Frank, George and Melvin Phillips.

He was employed by Arvin Industries in Franklin as a welder for 44 years, retiring in 1974. He also farmed in the Trafalgar area.

He was a member of Trafalgar Wesleyan Church, Nashville Veterans of Foreign Wars and Martinsville American Legion Post.

He enjoyed fishing and going to church.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 966th Engineer Maintenance Company as a technician 4th Grade.

The Rev. Marvin Hughes will conduct a service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation and Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spearsville Wesleyan Church Cemetery, with military graveside services by Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.
