Oscar (aka "Bubba") was employed as a General Office Clerk in California at the time Pearl Harbor was attacked on 7 Dec 1941. He enlisted in the Armed Forces on 9 Dec 1941 and reported to March Field (now March Air Reserve Base) in Riverside, CA as an Aviation Cadet. Eventually, he promoted to Captain as a Bombardier on B-17's while stationed in England. He flew several missions. Among them, was bombing factories in Germany that made war supplies for the Germans.

After the war, he returned to civilian life and entered the business world as a stock broker in Los Angeles in the late 1940's. He had many clients and among them was a young actress named Lucille Ball. Later, he was employed by General Motors at the Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile plant in South Gate, California as an inspector as the new cars rolled off the assembly line. Thru a mutual friend, Oscar was introduced to Wenona Faye Boatman.
