Iantha (King) McCloskey, age 97, of Morning Pointe of Greeneville, formerly of Brentwood Drive, entered into God's eternal care Friday evening, December 19, 2008, at Laughlin Memorial Hospital. She was born March 5, 1911, in Pittsburg Landing, TN, a daughter of the late William and Mattie (Johnson) King. Iantha was the loving wife of Richard "Dick" McCloskey to whom she was married for 45 years until his death in 1991. A previous marriage ended in divorce. Mrs. McCloskey gave birth to identical triplet girls, Joyce, Jeanne, and Julianne in Washington DC on October 26, 1936. Their birth created quite a sensation as it was very rare during that era. Many newspaper articles along with pictures were published as the triplets grew up together and became young adults. Mrs. McCloskey was a commercial artist who worked for the federal government in Washington DC during World War II and various companies after the war. She and her husband settled in Greeneville, TN in the mid 1960's and were active members of the St. James Episcopal Church. She enjoyed art and drawing, traveling, entertaining, and spending time with her friends and family. Iantha is survived by one child: Jeanne McDonough of Ocean City, NJ; one sister: Martha Marini of Caracas, Venezuela; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her daughters: Joyce and Julianne; one brother: William "Butch" King, Jr. Following cremation, a service to celebrate Iantha's life will be held at 7:00 p. m. on January 5, 2009 at the St. James Episcopal Church, 105 West Church Street, Greeneville, TN. The Rev. Carolyn Isley will officiate. A reception will follow the service in McMillan Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. James Episcopal Church, 105 West Church Street, Greeneville, TN 37745. Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
